Nope!

(from the smartusa email confirming the reservation)

Thats odd, I wonder how my girlfriend gave me her reservation when I picked up my orphan...

ok, so let me get this straight; you're NOT exercising your right to NOT buy your car (double negatives), so that would mean you ARE buying your car then? if so, why are you trying to sell your place in line?

good luck with THAT!!!

i believe it's up to the dealer to decide if you can get on their 'orphan list' without a reservation.

my bet is your dealer doesn't, or didn't at that time, require that you 'reserve' a smart first. if you gave them your girlfriends 'reservation', all you did was give them another 'orphan' to replace the one you bought.

Yes, at the time of pickup, things can be "worked out". But an outright transfer months in advance won't go. Why did you need your girlfriends rezo if you back up an orphan anyway?

I'm thinkin the reservation and build is in the name of the registeree. This build number/ reservation stays with that person until the car is either delivered to this person OR it is CANCELLED with corporate. A dealer can't cancel or transfer a reservation as far as I know.

When our car came in we found we had made an options choice we hadn't intended to. We had to cancel the reservation in our name before the dealer could sell the car to someone else. We then got an orphan the same week from the same dealer with exactly what we wanted. BUT, we had to talk to corporate as regards the cancellation of the original reservation and then THEY sent a check to return our deposit fee. Not the dealer.

YMMV

how long do you think it would take to take delivery if SMART called you today? Is it really now an 18 month wait?
