Not an owner yet........

Today I picked up my yellow VW Bug from the dealer and happened to see a Smart car sitting on the lot. I've been intrigued by these cars since I started seeing them on the road. My bug has over 110,000 miles and is 10 years old and soon I will be replacing it. I'm new to this forum to find out more info on these cars. My first concern is the blind spots, are there any? My bug has major blind spots while driving caused by the front pillar (?) on both sides. This is so bad sometimes I don't even see people walking in crosswalks, etc. Also I'm tired of driving a stick, and I definitely need a quality soundsystem. Any comments? I love the black on black.......

~ Black on Black is where its at! lol

The seat backs are def high and there have been times that I haven't seen cars in my blind spot . . Then again, I drive around in NJ and people appear out of nowhere just like magic . .

I cannot say much about putting in a wicked sound system, I don't have one but it can be done . .

Take one for a test drive, there is a dealer in your area . . I promise that you will think about that Smarty all the waaaaay home

Oh and welcome to the forums!

There are a couple of blind spots... but spot mirrors on the side rear view mirrors correct that.... and we sold our beetle for the smart too!!!

There are a couple of blind spots around the seats, but those are minor, and yes, there are people who appear out of nowhere and will let you know if you cut them off.

Other than that, my sugesstion, go to the nearest Smart center, and take a spin in one, get known on this forum, and ask lots of questions. Look at their site www.smartusa.com and look at all the specs on this little wonder, and please get really freindly with that nearby center and inquire about orphans ( Reserved cars once configured by the prospective buyers, but backed out when it came time to take delivery)

One more little word of advice, since there is a waiting period to get a Smart, begin the saving plan for one now, and paitience is a great virtrue. I did not actaully wait a full year to get a Smart, i was very blessed and graced with an orphan equipped the exact way i wanted it. Once you get one of these unique cars, you will love it.

Welcome to SCOA!
1. blind spots, not driving the car myself I can't tell you but these fine members can.
2. Soundsystem, when you order the car you can get the radio 10 + tweeters + subs installed by the factory as an option.

Other than that, any other questions could be solved with some time at SCOA.

I have not had a problem with the front pillars. There are blind spots in back but they are minor. All vehicles have some sort of blind spots.

I bought mine without a radio. I bought some ones elses after they had upgraded. It is a radio 9. I was surprised how easy it was to install. I believe there are adapters for the Smart. There is a section here at the forum about installing and using high end stereos.

I have had my little car since March of 2008. I really enjoy it.
