Many, many threads here on reactions to the car. My guess is you will be happy with yours.

Hey it's a great car and I say that after driving the same 1986 Cad. Fleetwood Broughm for 20 years... I bought it second hand in 89.

The only thing lacking is that big ol trunk and the back seat. But I can rent a U-Haul when I need to haul ****. The smart is perky, zippy and a real delight. I'm a 6'6", 67 year old hairdresser, and honey it is a fun car that you will love.

You could read positive letters here until your new smart arrives. Don't worry, you'll love it, every minute of it. Be patient...

If you want to fly under the radar and have no attention brought to yourself don't buy. The car is a rock star, once you get it you will know what I mean, everyone who has one knows exactly what I'm talking about.....

Some have had problems, as with any car. But most have had a really great experience so don't be frightened by discussions of problems, they're good to know about but the car is too much fun to let the small chance of getting a problem car deter you from getting a Smart. I love mine and have been driving it around north jersey for the last 5 -6 months. It does just fine on the local roads and interstates. Welcome to the forums.

I have my smart about 2 months now and love it. There is only 1 thing that has me thinking a little. Why is there only a 2 year warranty on this car? The car has not been around in the us that long but until I read posts about how people have 30,40 or 50,000 miles with no major problems I will be a little un sure about the longevity of these cars. Any opinions on this subject? I think most us are curious.

I was a bit apprehensive, too . . .

I was a bit apprehensive, too - buying a car almost sight unseen - with only a 15 minute test drive. I managed to snag an orphan after fretting for a few months - and after owning it for over two months now, I couldn't be happier~! It's waaay better than I expected and twice the fun, too.

Now I just gotta wait until my original (non-orphan) arrives with all the goodies on it ~!

And, oh yeah, you will stand out!

Put your worries away. I still don't have a DDE yet but I picked up a Smart car off Ebay, couldn't wait. I love it. Aside from the 'clown car' remarks, and the never ending 'you fit in that thing??' questionws, I just smile and let them sit inside and they completely change their minds.

The wife just drove it for the first time, She loved it and didn't have any problems with the shifting as the magazines claim as a weak point. she just put it in auto and drove. I'm guessing when my ordered Smart arrives, she'll be taking it.
