question about beeping when turning off

Sometimes, when I turn the car off, it beeps for no apparent reason. No lights on, not in gear, not anything I can think of. It will stop as soon as I put the key back in and turn it but this can't be right. It doesn't happen al the time, just at some seemingly random times

This has been happening since I got the car in January and I kept thinking I would figure out what I was doing but I'm pretty sure, I'm not doing anything. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to make it stop doing this? It's not hurting anything but its not right and if its trying to tell me something, I should know what that is.

Thanks for your help.

Nice threads, and there are others, but none of them (yes, I read them) give a definitive answer as to why the car beeps sometimes. There is a random comment about the key being removed too quickly, but there are no thread links that go directly to any references that answer the question.

So, has anyone received an answer as to why the car continues to beep sometimes when the engine is shut off? I can get mine to do it by:

Removing the key too quickly after turning the ignition off;

Removing a seat belt prior to shutting down the engine;

Removing a seat belt at the same time as turning the ignition off.

These are not answers, these are symptoms.

Does this help??

UPDATE:

Actually went out and experimented to see if I could better understand what's happening per my original post. Turns out that the soft beeping is actually a warning to left the driver know that the Hill Start Assist is about to "end". This occurs when you have delayed accelerating past the HSA hold time which is +/- 1 second as I recall from the owners manual.

I can replicate on any of the roads around as they are all hilly!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have had something similar happen a number of times: when parking, after removing the key, the vehicle emits a steady series of soft beeps. Nothing appears to be "wrong" (no lights left on etc.), and there seems only one way to shut it off: reinsert key and turn the ignition on then off.

Quite by accident, I discovered that this is actually telling me that the "Hill Start Assist" had been activated and I guess was in effect telling me it was deployed (brake on waiting for me to accelerate away).

Only found this out as I regularily back down a steep driveway to park and it seemed to happen most often when I stopped. Note: I was still on a bit of an incline so quite correctly, Hill Start Assist should have activated.

Not sure if anyone alse can add more to this but I sure felt better understanding that what was happening was most likely "normal" and not a defect!

I have the same thing. I do park on a slight incline in my driveway. I'll be aware of it now and see if it does it on level ground

Thanks

+1, mine does it on level ground if I remove the turn off the engine and remove the key immediately.

Since it seems they all do it at one time or another, it may have to be called a feature...
