Question about renting a SC in Raleigh

Hi folks,

Did a search in this (forum) area and saw that this question does seem to come up regularly, but figured I would give it a shot anyway.

I thought that I had heard or saw someplace recently that Smart Cars would be available for rental, not sure if it was a national company or something local here in Raleigh.

I did call Smart of Cary a few months ago asking the same and they said 'no way'. Will try calling them again tomorrow, maybe something has changed.

Also looked at some of the national car rental sites and no mention.

We love the look of the car (our hearts pitter-patter every time we see them drive by) but would like to drive it some.

I believe in the latest issue of Smartimes Magazine (Smartimes Magazine | The Smart Car Magazine), they mentioned the Car 2 Go program that has been a big hit in Europe. It is being tested in Austin, TX and I think one other US city. Car 2 Go is similar to zip car.

Thats all I have heard about Smarts for rent. Some dealerships use them as loaner cars.

Finally got around to it a couple days ago and gave the folks over in Cary Smart Car a call asking about rentals. Nothing happening here, as I have found in other posts, there are test programs in select areas. Oh well for now.

I know the Enterprise Rental shop in Vienna, VA has 6 smarts.

I heard that Enterprise has purchased 80 smarts for use around the country?

My understanding is that any Enterprise shop should be able to get one (given enough notice)?

Check with your local Enterprise Rental about picking one up at Raleigh?
