Question (about very "fast" DDE)

Hi everybody,
I decided to do the reserve program and signed up for it on January 5th 2009 and when I check on the website it says I will get it in between February 09 and April 09. Is that even possible that quick? When I called a dealership they told me it was still up to a year waiting time and that they are build and shipped from France. So my question now: How true is the website information that I will really get one that quick? And how would it possibly be here that quick if it's coming all the way from France and they haven't even contacted me about the extras I might want.... so I'm a little confused at this point!

Thanks in advance for any answers that will hopefully come...

Welcome Daniela,
The Delivery Date Estimator is just that: an estimator. Not to be trusted until you've configured (see Be sure to clear those senders in your e-mail INBOX filters:).
The DDE is known to show somewhat frivolous dates until then, but yours are really strange. At this stage, your Dealer has a better idea on how long it takes for cars to be delivered in your their zone. Only after you've "Configured" your model and options will you start to see a DDE that gets more and more accurate.
Usually, when the DDE show actual dates, and no more just months, does it mean that the car is near construction. But what is unusual in your case is that your DDE does show dates. Maybe you're one of the first beneficiary of a new system, the smart Express (see smart usa to introduce "smart express" to better handle orphans) Since this program is so new, who knows...
Anyway, welcome to the Forum. And keep us posted.
And sorry for not being more helpful: we're in unchartered waters.

Interesting. I reserved Nov 8 '08 and have a DDE of March to May 2010. Doesn't really matter since I bought an orphan that was configured exactly how I would have configured had my number come up. Look around, your car may be out there.

As was stated by another poster, there may be an orphan in the system that mostly lines up with your smart's current reservation car. If you are ready to move on one, why not call the local dealers and see what orphans they have available. In SoCal (LA?) you have Beverly Hills, North Hollywood/Universal City, West Covina, Riverside, and supposedly a smart center is opening in Cerritos in mid-February. Some day soon I just know the centers will start posting available vehicles on their websites

I have not been contacted to config, but I reserved in September 2008, and the DDE says April 2009 - I thought that was pretty quick, but yours is really fast.
I was thinking (before the DDE said anything), that I was gonna get a 2010.
So it's a pleasant surprise. What color you thinking about getting?
For me, currently, I want white/silver. But whenever I see a different color, I think I might want that one, LOL.

If the options you selected are the same as an orphan somewhere else in the country, there's no logical reason you should have to wait - color can be changed by swapping panels in 2 hours. The new Smart Express should help considerably.

It would really help if dealers threw in the panel swap to match cars up.
