Questions and thank you.....
What a great little gem this forum is! Thanks for all the information.
I am off to buy my smart car tonight.
Hmm, I haven't decided on a color, grey or blue metallic.
Hmm another dilema, there is a new blue metallic 2008 cabriolet for the same price as a metallic grey or blue 2009 passion.
What are your suggestions on which car and why?
What about the color?
Do the dealers nagogtiate with the price?
We live where there are a lot of elms and they are sticky for a few months, would the sap be hard to clean off the top?
I am going to buy it tonight. They have both of them on the lot.

I have a blue/black and love it. I think it's classy looking, but, I have to say, the grey, though is sounds horrible on paper, looks terrific! It's a complex color containing more than one hue, depending on angle/lighting and one worth considering. I'm not sure which I'd buy if I had it to do over.
I would miss the auto wipers/lights on the 2009 models. I think that's one feature that's now, definitely, gone onto my MUST HAVE list for future vehicles. That being said, my feelings skew towards the 2008.

I would think the cabriolet would have better resale value and it is kind of cool to have a convertible. If I had the choice I would go for the car has the softtop.

I would definitely go for the 2008 Cabrio. Once the free 2.0 update is done, there is basically no difference between the model years, and the ability to drop the top on a sunny day is terrific. You may also be able to negotiate a big on the price of the 2008 depending upon your specific smart centre. As for the cloth top, just keep it protected with a good convertible top protectant (not difficult or expensive) and you'll be fine. Plus, if you decide you want grey in a year or so, you can simply purchase and swap put the panels, which is another great feature of the Fortwo.

I have the blue/silver and really like it. I like blue. I have seen the red/black and it looks really nice. I have seen a gray/silver (or gray/black?) at the dealer at Smart Center Edison and it looks nice. I think color is up to you. I think one should get the Passion. I have the Pure and I really like it. Many think the Passion would be better and I agree but I was going for the lower price.

Auto wipers/lights were offered on the 2008's and early 2009's. They've since been removed as an offering for 2009 models, a bad move in my opinion.

I sympathize with those who would still like the Auto wipers/lights but I, for one, am happy not to have them on my '09. I really wasn't happy with the way the Auto wipers worked and good riddance to the hockey puck.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your new smart no matter which you choose.
Regards,
Dan
