Quick question about convertible top

i finally got to sit in a smart today , and when i put the top all the way down , it was right in the way of the rear view mirror , is there a 3rd retract setting thats like ALL the way down so you can still use the mirror?

What you saw is what you get. I got used to the limited view out of the inside mirror fairly quickly, though I must admit that I learned long ago to use the two outside mirrors while towing stuff.

There's no other place for the fully retracted top to go, besides atop the tailgate. So no, there is no "3rd setting". My favorite way to drive a smart cabriolet opened up is with the top open to the 1st position, if you will. This maintains rear visibility, kills back-draft and provides plenty of open sky.

Cheers,
Arch

Yep, stage one open maintains your rearward visibility. Unlike Arch, I find the cabin to be less breezy with the top completely retracted though. To me, the air seems more turbulent in stage one open. Call me crazy.

I believe a taller person wouldn't have as much of a problem seeing over the retracted top. I'm short. I readjust the mirror and sit straight. That seems to help. I don't like not knowing if some fool is riding my bumper.

We also pretty much leave the top back at the first stop. Works fine that way. I LIKE the top system and put the top down a LOT cuz it's simple and easy to use.

You'll get used to the mirrors inside and out. A bit strange but it grows on ya.

When your on the highway you won't see the MACK truck logo on your rear, when the top is down.
