something also to consider - orphan availability may drop precipitously in the coming months - my reasoning is that many of the early orphans we generated by reservationists who reserved before the smart was even shipping - speculators if you will - and, once they had a chance to see and feel and touch and drive the vehicle, for whatever reason, they decided to abandon their reservation. as the vehicle becomes far more visible within our communities, those who place the reservation are likely to be more committed to that decision, less speculative, and as such, more likely to follow through with their final order.
when you're taking reservations 12 months in advance of first shipment to anyone, cancellations would be a significant percentage. when you're taking reservations for something that is a known quantity, chances of cancel are far lower. especially if you're being told in advance that the wait may be uncomfortably long but you're making the reservation anyway.
eventually, orphan pools may all but dry up. as only the truly committed, fully aware will be placing reservations.
