rear wheels tilt

i've been looking over my new car for a week and just noticed that the rear wheels appear to be angled out slightly at the bottom. is this normal? would this affect tire wear? thanks for any input!

It's called camber... yes it is proper. The car has a semi-De-dion rear suspension and the wheels go up and down 'Almost' vertically. True De-Dion, the wheels travel vertically.

In this case, I can attest that it works very well.

I've noticed that as well. The older Corvettes were noticable on that as well.

The original VW bug did that too.

You should see my Miata with 2.8 degrees negative camber.
Tire wear with the mild camber the smart has will be no problem unless toe is out of adjustment.
