If you know what set it, you can use any modern scan tool to reset it. In the USA Autozone will do that for free.

If you don't know why the engine light's on, you might want to find out. The scan tool will give you a code that you can call into your dealer's service department (or other mechanic). It could be as simple as a minor glitch or something major... the code tells you which.

The modern scan tools cannot reset all the codes. Much of the control is still left to the dealer. I went to my Autozone and was relieved to find my Check Engine light was the common "P041" (or similar) code. When I asked if he could reset it so I can make sure nothing else goes wrong until I get to the dealer, he suggested that functionality isn't available. Your mileage may vary, but the dealer can take care of things quickly.
