Semi-new Smart owner - car alarm crazy

Hi there. We bought our smart car about 8 months ago and recently had it in the shop for the upgrades. Since then the darn alarm keeps going off at odd times, even when it's unlocked. Has this happened to any of you? Anybody know what to do? It's Saturday night and the dealer's not open.

Help?
Thanks! Robin

You can turn the alarm off for the moment by hitting the "tow" button on your center console next to the unlock button.

But going off when unlocked? That sounds odd.

When I unlock the car with the key remote, about 3 minutes later I hear the blip blip blip of it locking itself, then the alarm sounds about 20 minutes later. It won't stay unlocked. I just tried what you said with the tow alarm and then did not lock the door with the remote. So far so good, although this won't work for a long term solution but it's perfect for the weekend - thanks!

The re-lock thing is something I stumbled upon that perplexed me until someone read me the line from the owner's manual. If the driver or passenger door is not opened after unlocking the car within a short time (1 or 3 minutes, I forget which) the car will lock itself again. So a mistaken locking (keys in the pocket) can only be unlocked for a long time by also opening a door.

The false alarms are usually due to a defective motion sensor insider the car. Turning it off with the tow button (in the button bank in the center of the dash) as JohnH suggests will generally keep it from happening until you can get it fixed by the dealer. BYW, the rest of the alarm system stays active.

Have the same issue. Turning off the tow function works like a charm. Let the fun begin
