smart car service and repair L.A.

I'm a new member. I own a Smart Car Fortwo, Passion. I'm looking for service/repair shop in the Los Angeles area. Appreciate any recommendations.

Where did you purchase your Smart from? I too have been looking to purchase one here in the LA area and am just starting to look in to service stations for it. I have a few leads so far and am talking to some others who are owners in the area too.

SMART, a private party, but, I know it is a G & K conversion. I would be very interested in sharing information w/ other local L.A. owners re parts, tires, and service. Right now arranged just light maintenance support from absolutely GREAT mechanic I've known many years [Jim Matson Automotive on Pico], but want to be prepared just in case anything major, beyond what he can help me with, comes up in the future.

Service is obviously an issue for current Smart owners and may continue to be when the new models come out. Sadly for me in the Chicago area the only "authorized" service dealer is also a Lamborgini dealer so my oil change and other miscellaneous work came to over $200. I called every Mercedes dealer in the area and none of them would work on the car. I bought the car in Pittsburgh so taking it back to the dealer would be a problem.

Just for future reference if in LA, found excellent place to repair/maintain smart car. Had computer to diagnose and reset. Did "A" Service. Had to plan ahead for parts but no problem. Owner very enthusiastic and did a lot of research on Smarts. Second Smart he has worked on [in LA that's say'n something]. Independent Mercedes Benz garage:

My Smart's been rear-ended twice in the 8 months I've had it. --
First time I was repaired at Beverly Coachcraft on Sawtelle and the second time at Classic Collision Center in Silverlake. Both shops did a great job although it took about a month to get it back each time.
Communication was much better at Classic Collision Center and Beverly Coachcraft wouldn't refund my decuctible for almost 6 months, so I'll likely be avoiding them in the future...

I've had two close calls where I was almost rear ended. Both times, I saw the SUV's coming in my rear view mirrow while I was stopped at the light and only managed to escape because I hit the accelerator and moved forward before they got to me. Both times, the SUV's stopped in the space I previously occupied! PHEW!!

I'm wondering if there's an optical illusion type cause for this? Like, possibly, because of our size, we appear to someone trying to beat the light, that we're much further down the road than we actually are?
