I'm getting closer to 32-33 on a regular basis. I have got 37-38, mostly highway. I just hit 1200 miles so maybe it will loosen up and do better now. I love the car, not sorry at all that I bought it, but wish I was getting closer to the figures others on this forum are getting. I am not a hard driver and use auto mode 98% of the time. Any ideas out there on what I need to do to get better mpg's?

Milage

I've just turned 3500 miles on mine. I've been on the road with my smart since January 25th. Started out getting only 29 MPG but weather conditions
and such were pretty bad here in Wisconsin.

Now that it is the end of May, I'm averaging 39 to 40 MPG doing short runs and city driving. Just completed a round trip drive from Milton, WI to St. Paul, MN and averaged 47.85 MPG. My speed was anywhere from 55 to 65 MPH.

With the price of gas as it is now, to stop anywhere will cause a small crowd to gather to ask what I've got, how's the gas milage, and where can I get one.

For awhile, I was getting 50+ mpg... until I rejigged the ScanGauge; I had forgotten to adjust the tank size. Now it more accurately reflects my mpg's: about 43 over all. Considering that I drive 55-63 mph and rarely use the brakes, I'd be surprised if ppl were able to get substantially more. I've even tried drafting.

If you're really getting 52, please share some tips!

Last fillup after a 65 mph trip 250 miles almost all highway, maybe 900' elevation changes, 2 adults and a dachshund with a little around town at the other end...49.65 mpg. Worst tank so far, very short commute, getting on the throttle a bit as I was past early break-in...36.5 mpg. Normal all-around short commute and occaisonal trips to town average 39mpg.
Could not be happier with the car. For once, got what we needed as opposed to what we thought we wanted! Dave

anyone know what happens if you put in regular gas instead of high test (by mistake). A gal in the Smart Car service dept told me it just would run a little rougher. Nothing significant.

At just over 1000 miles on my Smart, I have been averaging 38 MPG combo surface streets and Interstate, I also have a Honda Fit, it averages 33-34 around town and 40 MPG on long trips. We are real happy with both cars.

His numbers don't sound that far off. I got 55.7 on a trip to Orlando this week. Mostly highway with the A/C off. Windows up for the pre-dawn trip over and windows down for the trip back. I ran the speed limit, which was mostly 55 with a couple short stretches of 60.
