With our 2007 Smart and using AC most of the time, we average 43mpg with 90% of our use in metropolitan conditions. We are located at 5200-7300 feet above sea level and do a lot of heavy mountain driving, so that keeps our mileage down. Of course, your 2008 engines have about 10 HP more and that makes a difference too. Nevertheless, we have touched 50 mpg from time to time. The Smart is fun to drive in the Sierra Madre!

Four fillups so far - 34,40,39,44 mpg. Great car - puts fun back in driving. I took it in for an initial oil change and the manager of the Mercedes dealership came over to talk and said that the smart is the hottest car he has ever sold, and that they are building a brand new wing on his showroom just for smart.

40 in town

I'm getting 40 mpg after 3 tanks, all in town. Looking forward to some highway miles.

Guess that other thread had too much mileage information on it. I kind of liked being able to see that kind of information on one thread. And at some point it would have made it easy for someone to condense the numbers and give percentages for how many are getting how much mpg.

I save all mine on an Excel spreadsheet. So I know mine for each tank, cumulative, cost, driving conditions, operating conditions and any other important variables. Fact is that driving conditions due to terrain and operating conditions make mpg in other parts of the country are not comparable to here. As well as how someone else operates their vehicle can be entirely different than me. What I call conservative can be aggressive for someone else or what someone else sees as conservative I might see as aggressive. And while some are hypemiling others are trying to beat everyone off the line.

In reality we can have 200 threads about mpg. Nice to have fewer and easier to find. But for many it's easier to start new threads and have people give their mpg in many different places rather than just one.

WOW! I can not wait to get taht kind of gas milage! I work just about 15 minutes from home and, for the most part dont leave the 40 mile radius from my home. Right now I am getting about 20 MPG**even at only 39 that equals a HUGE savings for me!
