gmalou:

You becha - as an avid smart ambassador, the majority of my conversations with interested folks are "of a certain age," and many of the smarties I've encountered are too.

Portland had an Orphan a while back - a yellow, wrapped like a surfer's "woody," and with a surfboard carrier on top. A feisty senior gal snapped it up, and reports back to the Portland Center that she just *loves* it.

And, one of the things I love (of the so very many,) is the ease of getting in and out - the seat is high enough to just scoot right in - a real plus for my old bones...

Also, I have the cabrio, and when one adds the little convex stick-on mirrors to the side mirrors, and adjusts the side mirrors so that each reflects the lane on either side (rather than the side of the car,) I dont find that "blind spots" are a factor in traffic.

So, for all of the joys the smart delivers, by all means, treat yourself to the most fun present imaginable...your new smart...and live it up!

My octogenarian parents are waiting to replace their Matrix with an electric Fit...perhaps they will change their minds when they see my Smart Car!

My 87 y/o Mom fell in love with mine!

I think if she drove more she'd dump her Solara for one. She got a big bang out of her test ride around the neighborhood and had to show it off to her friends. . .

And, oh yeah - I'm 67 so I guess I qualify, too.

"I want to get a new car for my next #80, birthday. "

I’m just wondering what car you got for your first eightieth birthday?

Someone else started a thread about Ernest Borgnine (age 91) and his new smart car. So, I'd say that he may be the oldest owner!

Here it is:

Good for you gmalou. I'm 74, have 2 other cars and have not driven either more than two or three times since I got my smart on July 17, 08. Drive it all over town and at 70 MPH plus on the interstate and have never enjoyed driving this much. My wife loves riding in it.

Shure the smart is just right for seniors. If you live in the Dallas area
you'll be a senior by the time you get your car.
