Snow Blind in my Smart

Tonight was an adventure driving my Smart in a big snow storm up here in Green Bay, WI . When they forcasted 3-6 inches this afternoon I should have left Smartie in the garage where he belongs and used the Toyota but I just love driving my Smart. The snow kicked in at 3pm and my about 7pm it was blowing and drifting upwards to 12"-20" and things looked very grim when I got stuck about 6 feet down my work driveway, luckily for me some nice plow driver plowed me out so I could go on my way for my night's adventure.
I decided best thing would be to go home (about 2 miles from work) but as I was about 2 blocks from home I realized the snow was drifted to high to make the turn down my street so I kept driving on the main road which was plowed only by other vehicles but at least I could navigate through so I continued about 1/2 mile down and took a wrong turn and got stuck, but once again a nice guy stopped and gave me a push back to the main street where I turned around and decided to try my luck back where I first thought was to drifted up...I shouldn't have done it because when I got to the turn off once again my Smart was slipping and sliding and not going anywhere, once again the same guy that helped my a few minuted earlier showed up out of nowhere to give me a hand along with another plow driver. After a few minutes I was back on the main drag going a fierce 20 mph trying to stay on the clear streets and maybe navigate to the other side of town to the thai restaurant where I could relax and have a few drinks while the plows get to work..
At abot 1:30 I decided to try my luck again, this time most of the main roads were clear and as I drive towards my street I notice all of the side streets like mine where still left piled with snow and if mine was the same there was now way my Smartie was going to make it home but lucky for me my little dead end street was plowed and Smartie is back safe and sound in his garage...where he will stay for the rest of the winter....

Light weight, no way to switch off traction control and being narrower than the average vehicle are the issues with the Smart in deep snow.

I would not take it off the road for Winter just the heavy snow fall days before the plows get out

Had the same problem here in Chicago. I put on a set of Blizzacks and haven't had any problems since.

You wont find a lot of cars that like the deep stuff you just got up their. But it works just fine on the plowed roads even when snow covered, just stay away from the drifts and keep your eyes on the weather reports.

Snow tires and use manual shift when it's a bit slick/snowy, but yes, you can't fight those drifts. And when you city doesn't get to your residential street, (or that wonderful heavy pack at the end of your driveway when they do) you're just screwed. You have a little better chance with the Matrix if you have the AWD and slightly higher ground clearance, but the abominable snow drifts can get it too.

I say know where the Thai restaurants are and wait for the plows to catch up.
