A spare...where

Love my smart, but I need to have a spare somewhere. I seem to have more than my share of flats. Does anyone know a best option so I can keep one around...just in case..

Just above your post and to the right is the SEARCH FEATURE.... Click the word and search SPARE and you will find the 40-50 threads already started on this subject.

Not very helpful. Try the search you snidely recommended comes up with 315 hits. On the first page, tweeters, A/C problems, DDE discussions, trailers ... it is a hodge podge. The search function is very close to worthless. It's a PIA to dig through 13 pages of "hits" that mostly aren't "hits" ... Perhaps the FAQ page should help with common inquiries such as this.

Huh? There are a number of specific hits on the first page. I do agree the FAQ page might be helpful.

And to answer the original poster:

Some people put a spare front tire/wheel standing up behind the driver's seat. The front tire/wheel can do double-duty as a rear wheel.

You can get same-size aftermarket wheels from tirerack.com for a reasonable price, and they'll mount a OEM tire for you.

Of course, you'd still need to be able to jack up the car, and remove the lug nuts. See evilution's website for details on jacking up a smart:

Spares are discussed in other threads, which mostly discuss carrying the spare either behind the seats or in the boot area. One solution I haven't seen discussed yet is a hitch-mounted spare tire carrier, preferably hinged to allow access to the boot:

Receiver Tire Rack & Hook at Discount-Trailers.Com

Of course, this would require the installation of a trailer hitch. But that also would open up other possibilities (e.g., bike rack, ski rack) if you're looking into those as well.

search TITLES ONLY?

Howdy all

When you are searching for something specific (like "spare")

Try using the "advanced search" option and search for "Title only"

This will only return hits that have that specific term in the title?

Really weeds out most of the junk?

It is hard to locate the best solutions with so many to search from.

Take a look at a2jack's post "Don't Need No Stinkin Spare"

Also, a solution I found very appealing was recommended in several posts, Stop & Go Tire Plugger.

Most other options are a variation on these two, or the built-in flat fix kit.

Smart

I've only looked on line after seeing the For Two on the road. Hope to get a convert-able by the end of the year.
I have a concern for the size of the windshield.
Any thoughts??
Thanks, Colleen
