Last month, I reserved a Rally Red/Black cell passion coupe with design black interior. Still way too soon to be looking for the config package so I'm using the time to get my setup finalized. I may abandon the red tho since seeing a Metallic Gray coupe on the lot. The photos you see online don't do the color any justice. Its a really sharp color, so I'm gonna switch to Gray/Black cell.
What surprises me is that since reserving last month, my delivery window has already slid forward twice and now reads THIS November to January!
Well, perhaps it only seem like it but I know it has been over a year. I ordered a white, silver cage, black interior and comfort package. I just received the email that my baby enters the US via ship (at Jacksonville) tomorrow -- Valentiine's Day. The Sarasota dealer says it takes 10 days to get it so I should plan on delivery by the end of the month (or sooner!). I have wasted no time -- I have my financing in place. I am psyched, at long last!
I plan to flat tow it behind my Leisure Travel Van (Dodge Sprinter conversion) so I have been reading up on that. Looks like a "go!"
Dare I ask a very dumb question? Dare I go to buy this car without having test-driven it or is its cuteness sufficient to warrant the purchase? I did sit in one.... and from all the reading I have done here, I can't imagine that I wouldn't love it.

Have you driven a small car, like a VW beetle, before? If not, I would recommend a test drive. It is a lot different than a big car in handling and ride. Better a new orphan than an unhappy owner.

True, true -- but I am an "old VW Beetle" aka bug driver. And I owned two Renault "Le Car"s. Small is no problem (and I also drive a Vespa scooter...). My concern is the transmission/shifting (paddles??). What is with that?
With thanks for your response...

Hello Everyone:
Today I bought a 2006 Pulse with 19k.
It's the European model modified by G & K.
Just want to find more information about the
Smart Car. We have several cars,
2 Volvos, a convertible and a XC70 (98)
plus an 89 Alfa spider.
However, since most of our driving is within 10 miles,
we felt we needed a car that got better gas mileage.
We plan to replace both Volvos with a newer all wheel drive
car for our highway and long distance driving.
The Alfa will stay.
We live in La Grange Park, a suburb west of Chicago.
Ron
Just got back from the Pittsburgh, PA Auto Show today. Hubby was very impressed with the Smart Fortwo, . . . . so I promptly ordered one on-line. When I first saw the colors on-line this past week - thought I'd want a metallic blue with silver metallic cell. But saw a rich looking grey metallic - which threw me for a loop at the show. I'm in LOVE this Valentine's Day! Now the wait. :woohoo
I think you will really like the SmartCar - we LUV ours. In fact I enjoy it so much I let my Porsche battery run down because I didn't drive it enough (had to buy a new battery and the car is only 2 years old) - always in the Smartie. It may feel different getting up to speed, but I've done several 400-mile round trips in it and it cruises along just fine. I have to watch out for speeding on the open road just like any other car. I vote that you'll be happy with yours - I didn't test drive for ours either.
After waiting 1.4 years, my Smart passion is sitting in the dock at Jacksonville since Feb 14... Delivery is anticipated by the end of the month. But I just didn't feel like I was getting enough attention from the dealer (not calling back, responding in a timely manner, the panic associated with getting the car delivered and then the rush to prep it and deliver it...). And I don't know Sarasota at all and I have two homes in Fort Lauderdale...so.... I will pick up my orphan tomorrow from Westin... just like I ordered except for the silver cage is black; with comfort package I want. AND I am getting a 2009 for the 2008 price. Sooooooooo, if you seek a white/silver Passion with the comfort package, I have it on very good authority that there may be an orphan for sale in Sarasota. BTW, there was a $200+ price difference (with me paying less!). Tomorrow will be a great day.... I have arranged to have a friend drive me over from Fort Myers in order to get it.
I will be working on getting it set up to tow behind my RV (Dodge Sprinter conversion). Does anyone know a place to get that set up in Fort Myers?

Thats hard to do. But, you save $400, and they are not charging you with xtra stuff? If not, then you have a deal!
