Took the Smart for a test drive yesterday and knew I had to have one. I put down the $99.00 deposit
The salesman asked are you sure I can't talk you out of it, I said no.
I think this car is gonna be a big hit in the United States.
A salesman who knows the car sells itself. You have a buyer who willingly hands over $99 and is willing to wait 14 - 18 months for a car, it's not likely that buyer is going to say "Uh, OK give me bacck my deposit."
My wife and I ordered a Black/Black Passion with Comfort package. I LOVED the Cabrio we test drove, but not the most practical for Minnesota. I did convince the wife to put that on second choice list. I can see it now, it will be December, -32 degrees out, and they will call us telling us that we have a chance to buy a yellow cabrio. I'd do it. Hehe...Glad to be among the smart ones!

Was there an orphan list? Did they offer that to you?
Did the salesman ask if he could talk you out of getting a car? What kind of salesman is that?
The Salesman knew I wanted the car and knew I had a sense of humor.
When I was in the showroom there were 3 others taking the car for a test drive, one had put $99.00 down before me. I too am a salesman and when I get the feel for my customer I know how I can talk to them.
