Thank You, smart People

So, let me start out by stating that I've been a smart follower since 1998 when I first saw them in Stuttgart, Germany. In 2000, however, I purchased a New Beetle TDI as smarts were virtually unknown in the USA and seemed to be only an impossible dream at best for us.

Over the past 9 years I've become invested heavily in using bio-fuels (before it was even cool to do so) and performance tuning (i.e., fast diesels as I just love performance driving/autobahn speeds). The supporting TDI community has been nothing short of spectacular.

My recent purchase of a passion cabrio was aimed at fulfilling a 10 year old dream while giving my wife peace of mind by attaining autobahn sensations at posted speeds. While I fully knew what I was getting into with the smart auto itself, I was unsure of what to expect from the smart community.

The past month of monitoring and participating in posts has surpassed all hopes and expectations.

You smart people are the most respectful, helpful, happy group of genuinely caring people who respond to both valid and sometimes quirky inquiries intelligently while rolling with off the mark criticisms using humor instead of bashing.

My smart is an obvious hit from the get-go. Having such a great group to learn from and share with is a completely unexpected bonus.

It's no wonder that J. D. Power rates the smart as the "Most Appealing Sub-Compact Car". smart People fully appreciate the engineering and thought that has gone into these little wheels of wonder and communicate it to others without arrogance, but with compassion and respect.

Thank you, smart People, it is an honor to get to know you.

Thank YOU for becoming an active part of the community! It's people like you who are the Smart bunch of folks we've all come to know here on the forum.

You can even help support the forums and get your own little blue SCOA emblem to the left by tossing $15 (or $30) in the direction of the SCOA CLUB (link at the far left or click on the emblem under another member's name).

You can be a part of the community without it just fine. For me, it took a few months before I realized the club was even there, that I could put something more than discussion into the forum.

IMO; a paid membership is worth the low cost.

Congratulations on your Smart, it's great to hear that you're enjoying it as are 99.9% of the forum members. (I left .01% just 'cause you never know about large groups of people.) And, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. This is the place to get all the dirt on the latest goings on and to find out about the wonderful meets that happen in the area. I do agree that getting the SCOA membership is well worth it.
Just get in, take a trip to the grocery store and take a long trip there just to really get to enjoy the car BTW got a name for it?

Hey, a fellow former TDI/biofuel nut!

A warm welcome! Its nice to see someone on here with a similar story. I bought the last Golf TDI that I could find new in 2002, as they were banned here in California, and I loved being a part of the TDI and the biodiesel community (I used to fill up at Biofuel Oasis in Berkeley if you've heard of it). I also used to autocross the car, which was aptly named the BDSM (Bio Diesel Super Machine). Since I traded her in for the Behomoth (my smart), it's been a real pleasure being on the Smart Car of America Forums and a part of the local chapter here, Smart Owners Club of San Francisco. I too found Smart owners to be a respectful, open, and good-hearted community in general. Could you handle the all the attention and questions the car gets if you weren't?
