Think I am crazy

I took the smart brochure to work today to show my fellow co workers and I can't believe that 98% thought I was crazy for buying an over size golf cart. They said the gas milage reported on the car was not enough to make them even look at them not to mention being unsafe. I see the car as something fun in my life and granted the milage is not the greatest but to me it's a crowd stopper. I love the fact that I can park in areas no one else will be able to. I'll get the last laugh when gas goes to 4 or 5 bucks a gallon in the next few years. The fact of the matter is I like it and thats all that counts, along with 30.000 other people in this country.

Fact is, you are crazy. But the advantage of participating in this forum is that you're one crazy person among many, many crazy people.

Welcome, and don't let the "sane" folks grind you down...

Most of the motor heads at work can't wait until I get the car. Others think I'm crazy. Don't care what the others think.

Illegitimus non carburundum.

(don't let the illegitmate ones [p.c. term] grind you down).

I think that it is an interesting car for car people, and does answer car questions in a different way. It also is fun.

I'm the one who might just be crazy- having a smart as an only car and putting up to 20k miles on country and back roads with some interstate or 60mph roads interspersed in. Oh, and also a lot of snow. That is nuts. As Spock would say "that is not logical." But life is boring without fun and interesting compromises. Smart may just be one more interesting compromise that I may have to make.

I showed the smartusa.com website to a co-worker and she said that the car was so "me" that I had to get it. I guess my co-workers think they really have me figured out?!

You are crazy... And people will laugh at you. But you will also be laughing at pretty much everyone standing next to you filling up at the pump.

For me it is the mileage, but it's not set in stone yet. Gotta test drive it, and hope I don't run into something with more appeal.

The whole thing about the mileage is that people just don't understand that calculations have changed a lot over the last couple of years. They changed a whole bunch in 2007 and again for this year. People keep talking about how this car should get a 50 MPG rating; but if this was 2000, it would.

None of it makes a damn bit of difference on how much gas the car actually uses, it just appears that the EPA finally has a realistic battery of tests.

I looked at the smart car years ago and the style was so unique that I wanted one and hoped some day we could get something like this in our country. Well that time has finally come and now I can't decide which color to get because I like most all of them. I told my sister out in venice beach california that I wanted a smart car and then she asked me if I had a dealer near me, I said no it is twenty five miles away then she laughed out loud and said there is a smart dealer 2 blocks from my house and that she was going to take a test drive tomorrow EAT YOR HEART OUT she said. On a good note she said people are standing in line for test drives. This is a very good sign as to their longevity here in this country God there must be a lot of crazy people out there.

You are NOT crazy; however 98% of your co-workers are crazy.

(1) They assume it is unsafe, but have no data to know one way or another. The truth is the Smart has a number of safety features that other cars lack. We are still waiting for crash test from the US, but tests from Europe give the car high marks.

(2) Which is crazy, 33 MPG city, 41 Highway or SUV mileage that's around 1/2 the Smart's mileage???

(3) Isn't a bit crazy to pay more for an SUV that gets lower gas mileage???

(4) Over 90% of the time, a car has only one person in it. So isn't a bit crazy to pay more to buy a bigger car to hold more people who won't be riding in the car???

(5) So what if the car is different from other cars??? Isn't it crazy to avoid being practical, just because it's different???
