Thinking of Smart as 2nd car.

Right now i drive a Honda Fit Sport 09 and ive been thinking about getting a smart to go with it, mostly as just a drive around town on day off work type car, not for everyday use. i know everyone here is going to have tons of positive to say about the car, but im wondering what yall think is the negatives about it , and i was reading on some site that it can pull stright into a parallel spot and not stick out , is this true? and legal?

Not sure why you would want an extra car to pay insurance on but, You may find the Smart as your everyday car and the Fit for when you need the extra space.

Except for the ? of a rearwheel drive in the winter ( you will find a Doz topics on this right now) It is a lot of fun to drive. We have an extra Truck that just sits unless we need to haul a trailer 4 times a year.

It is not legal to park head in in most places but you will find many other gret Smart parking spots.

...totally agree with Forest on this one...you will find yourself driving the smart more than the #1 car...
.. I will disagree in the winter driving issue..if you need winter tires down in New Orleans ...well.. then..we all are screwed up in the snow states....lol

Yes, it's a RWD. Much like the original VW Beetle. RWD and rear engine means it will go through just about anything.

I don't think I would want one as my only vehicle. I'm keeping my SUV and getting the smart as a second vehicle for the daily work commute (approx 60 miles).

I'm sure there are some that have one as an only vehicle, but it's not a good "fit" for me.

It is where the fluids are placed; windshield washer fluid, and others. It is where the radiator is too. There is not enough space to store things there.

I lived in nola for 10 years from 1908 to 1990 and at that time I thought most of the streets were quite rough compares to other places I have lived. The smart does not do real well on rough streets.

Most of my driving was from downtown to Harahan and around the uptown area. It seemed like the worst pavement was some of the concrete streets on the west bank.

Another issue to some is the transmission. It is nothing like anything you have driven before and could be called quirky. For some this is a deal buster.

If you are serious and can spare $99, get on the web site and place a reservation. It sounds like you will have a local dealer before you will be asked to configure so you will be able to learn more and take a test drive or two to see if it appeals to you. If so, configure, if not cancel and get your $99 back.
