Towing anyone?

That is to ask if anyone is getting the Smart to be use as a toad (vehicle towed behind a motorhome)?

I'm working on a hitch mount to carry it on the rear of the MH much like motorcycles are carried.

We are campers too and want to know if there is a tow bar that will fit. I told my husband he could clean out a bay and we would run her up in there. At least it would keep her clean and cozy.

Blue ox towing....

We spoke to a Blue Ox representative who said that a baseplate for the smartcar was "in the works"......and then received a reply from Blue Ox saying the baseplate will be ready in one month or so. Can the smartcar be flat-towed? We hate to put it on a trailer. thanks!

yes for toad

My intention is to pull a smart for two behind my RV. With only 1800 lbs weight it should be a no brainier and not require another braking system. I have contacted Blue Ox and they have advised me that they are building a base plate for the smart car and they will inform me when they have one developed. I suggest you contact Blue Ox and advise them of your intentions.

I don't know why the Blue Ox rep told you the base plate will be ready soon. I've had mine for almost a year now! It works great and the car tows like a dream.

Check out the dates on the previous postings for your answer. The bigger question is why are vendors posting on year-old threads?

The best way to tow is buy a trailer. I have ordered my smart last august (still waiting) for towing behind my navion IQ. Here is a url for a smart car trailer.
