that's a great question. from what i've seen, smart dealers have no 'used car dept'.
if they are teamed with another dealer, as some are, they may be able to do so.....just check with your dealer.
Good idea, I never really thought about that... I am emailing my dealer now... LOL... Lets see what they say about my gas guzzling towncar, it will really stink if I have to get rid of the car before hand...
Well.. at my smart center that I am working with to procure my own smart I am trading in my car... although I have considered selling it privately say on ebay and then going from there... I just am not sure if I have a remaining balance after I sold it privately that the smart center would roll the remainder of my loan into the cost of the new car.. ya know?!
Craigslist is a good option for selling a vehicle as well. It's entirely free. No percentage fees like on ebay. Of course you don't have the option to check out your buyers feedback rating, but if you're careful you can have a good experience. I've sold 4 vehicles on craigslist. Just beware the scammers.
I'm thinking about getting a quote from CarMax also when my smart comes in. I'm aware that they'll probably give me less than I could get myself but it will eliminate alot of the hassel. I think a 15-miles-per-gallon SUV is going to be difficult to sell anywhere these days...
Getting a "offer" from CarMax just before picking up your smart is a good idea (if you have one in town that is). You'll have piece of paper to show your smart dealer what's its worth. If they match it, good -otherwise take it back to CarMax the next day.
Smart dealer for San Antonio is the used car dealer for Ancira group. Their sales people sell smarts and used cars. Smart deliveries are kinda slow so they stay busy pushing the used stuff.
