Trailer Hitch Cost?

I want to tow a tiny trailer from Harbor Freight.

The only hitches in our forums seem to have overly GROSS prices
I paid about the same for my 8000 lb. fifth wheel hitch!

Please help us all out here

PS
(I do not plan to tow my 5th wheeler with my cabrio)

I'm hoping at some point I will be able to order a regular old hitch for about $100... that just screws on... like any of the other vehicles I have... I don't need a $500 hitch!

You just stated what we all feel

The last hitch I bought was $499. and it was a super slider 10000# 5th wheel unit.(3 times as big as any car hitch).

Love the car, HATE the rip off parts prices

Hitches

Today, none of the US commercial hitch manufacturers anywhere have an aftermarket hitch for Smart. If they did , probably would be in the 100-250$ range bolt on.

Until a commercial hitch gets made, there won't be anything coming out of a US plant. But, customs are still being made at our Home site in Phoenix .. and other fabication shops.
U-haul has a custom fab shop in Phoenix.. 1-800-234-8869 then #2 for custom hitch. If they make it for you, they give you the hitch and maybe send the design over to a commercial maker for wider distribution.
If you have one made, aslo get the design for this forum.

$400.00 for hitch and installation ( I know this is high-- still not the 600+ canadian model)

Other hitch manufacturers might assist to design and install a custom hitch. Any or all of the following do the commercial designs for the US market.
Thule/Valley 1-800-344-3230x3x127 Califormia and?
Curt 1-800-738-7213 Wisconsin
Reese/Drawtite 1-888-521-0510 Ohio- California and?

I have been trying to get reasonable hitch installed for a few months.. The custom shop is the only way so far.

Regards,
