I live in Southern Utah in St George. We are about 400 miles from Los Angeles. I had previously driven a Smart car shipped in from Canada. At that time they were selling for about $25,000. I remember the shifting being rather slow.
WELL, I just could not wait any longer to try the new Smarts made for the USA market. I jumped in my Honda on Friday and drove to LA to test drive one of the new models.
I set up an appointment with Beverly Hills Smart Center. When I arrived on Saturday morning I was pretty excited. There were red ones, yellow ones, blue ones, white one and an all black one. There were pure models, passions models, and cabriolet models.
I took a passion coupe for a test ride. I liked the ride very much. The shifting was much better than in the imports from Canada. There was plenty of room behind the seats for grocery shopping bags and/or packing a few clothes etc for a short trip. I wanted to go on the freeway to see how the car drove at 70 or 80. Test drives were not allowed to go on the freeway however.
The interior of the car was very nice. I liked the fabric on the seats. The upgraded leather seats were very very nice IMHO.
Was it worth an 800 mile round trip to test drive the SMART? OF COURSE IT WAS...
A very nice and fun little car. I will be very interested to hear owners experiences in MPG and any service related problems and or bugs.
Still excited about the SMART...
