A Very, Very Sad Story

I waited like a lot of folks for more than a year and then on August 9, I became a proud owner of a blue Passion. It was everything I thought it would be and more. My wife and I put more than 400 miles in 2 days (no record I understand). I really enjoyed people gawking and the small crowds that would gather at the shopping centers. Well cut to the chase, on the way home from the office (Bethesda, MD) and driving on a very busy road (@35 mph), a*%%##$ deer jumped out of nowhere and crashed against my car. For a lot of cars this would have been quite a disaster, it was not pretty and I'm depressed but it looks like just the windshield got the damage. If anyone questions the safety of this car point them to this thread I still think this is a great car and a great design. It handled very well in this mess, The glass did not cave in (approx 130lb. deer, good size one). I'm not hurt and the *%#$ deer got up and walked away. I'd like to upload an image and get people's reaction or send me your email address and I'll send you a picture.

I live in Deer land...hate the animals...glad you and yours are OK...Smart or not..it is just a car. My son hit a deer in his Neon and it was bad...so these dang animals are a danger.

PS...looks like the little car did it's job!

Sorry about your smart, but glad you're OK . It does say a lot about the smart! You're not the first and unfortunately you won't be the last to have this happen. Hope you're smart is back on the road, good as new in no time !

Holy cow. Thank God for safety glass, eh?

How the heck did you miss a 100-150lb deer with the hood of the car? Did it jump or something? I would have thought the front end would be impacted. Of course, I just showed my wife and she says deer tend to jump when threatened by an oncoming truck, which is how they end up in a truck's windshield.

Does everything still work? i.e. no leaking fluids, just windshield damage?


(I'm not downplaying the $1200 cost of the windshield, but I think in most cars the A pillar would have bent.)

Ouch! I keep telling people these little cars are safer than they look and I'm greeted with a look of "she fell for the propaganda." It is great you are safe.
