I wouldn't call someone who bought all those dealer extras lucky,well there is some luck to it but that is not what comes to mind when first hearing it.Is $2500 the ballpark you paid for all those extras?

2500 About Right, I Thought It Was A Small Price To Pay To Avoid
Waiting 14 Months And It Wasn't Like I Didn't Get Anything For My Money-lojack Is Certainly Useful For My Smart, As It Gets Parked In A Rougher Part Of Town, And The Extra Warranty On The Tires And Rims Might Come In Handy. As For Anything Underhanded On The Dealers Part , I Wouldn't Have Any Knowledge Of That, I Was Just In The Right Place At The Right Time . And As For The Phone Calls Not Being Returned,i Spoke Too Quickly, Calls Were Returned , Maybe Not As Fast As I Would Have Liked. The Smart Center Is Part Of A Much Larger Dealership
With A Great Reputation So I'm Not Too Worried, I'm Just Gonna Enjoy My Smart

Even at a $2500 premium you're still getting it cheaper than buying on ebay.

Metalic Blue W/ Silver Strip,leather,power Steering,a/c,6 Cd Changer Radio, Chrome Accents On Mirrors And Tail Gate,tach And Clock,all Weather Mats,power Windows. She's A Sweet Looker!! Also Installed A Garmin 780 Gps W/ Bluetooth And A Sirius Satelite Reciever Connected To The Radio Aux. Input With An External Mic For Handsfree That Really Works Well. Both Units Are On At Same Time So When A Call Comes In I Just Hit Pause On The Satelite Radio And Do My Talking, The Integration Of The Bluetooth On The Garmin And My Phone Work Great,had To Install A Volume Control On The Garmin Line Out To Equalize The 2 Outputs Of Both Units Being That They Are Both On At The Same Time,but They Work Great Together- Will Try To Post Picture Of Installation

OK, here goes. This is my first post and the caption above the box (that I am typing in) says "Quick Reply." I mean for this to be a POST and not a reply. So...

I read comments about salesmen not returning calls. That's my experience too. The closest dealership is 60 miles away. Does that mean a 120 mile trip for warranty work? Oil changes? That's a real deterant to me pursuing a Smart. Even though I want one pretty much!

What is everyone else doing? Are you doing your own maintenance? Or find someone "in town" to do the work for you?

Dealership is in Indy and hometown is Lafayette IN.

Advice welcome.

Well first of all, this is a thread from back when the dealers were shot on cars and info from smart as to when cars would come in. Many folks knew before the dealer when they would get their cars.
That's way they were not returning calls.

60 miles away is not all that far to many of us. I took my car in for for its first 10K service, did the other 3 myself except for a return trip to the dealer recently for the brake fluid change.
Indy is one of the good dealers, you should have good luck with them overall. Plenty of other support in Indiana from other owners. You just need to tap into the network via the regional section of this site.

Thanks forestacadmy. I didn't know there was a regional group and now that I've found it, there is an event on 2Oct that starts pretty close to where I live! I won't have a Smart to go with them but I'll ride my bicycle over there to look at all the Smarts!
