I do wish I would have got the Force Field and Hyper Space but I hear the Force Field is not worth the money and the Hyper Space is rough on Re-Entry so I passed on them...

I ordered everything available for my cabrio. Since I just drive in town, I'll probably not need cruise control but HomeLink - absolutely. I have it on my grannymobile that I'm driving now and it's great. I'm also used to leather heated seats and auto lights and wipers so I'm getting those. This is the first car I've ordered for myself, so I'm getting everything I want. I've usually bought used cars so this one is for me!

I've never had a red car and never had a convertible, so that's what my baby will be.

I just wish they'd quit moving the DDE further and further away!!

At my age, I'm thinking the same. Have always had used and demos with low mileage and kept them at least 12-14 years. At this price for a Smart, I'd like color and extras of my choice - not someone else's.

I'm afraid to ask (and never see it mentioned in most posts) - when did you order and what delivery date are they providing? My recent order this past Saturday - Jan - Feb 2010 delivery.

I reserved mine on 10/14/07 and configured it on 11/7/08 (yes, over a year) and on 12/17/08 they congratulated me that it'd be here within the next 90 days. Okay, I believe that (not). Now the DDE is 3/6/09 to 5/26/09. I talked to the dealer today and they told me that it hadn't been shipped because they'd have the VIN if it had - and they don't.

From what I understand there's still quite a demand for them here and they're not getting a lot, though Alison told me that they're getting cars that were ordered in 5/07 and I ordered mine 10/07. Grrrr. I want my car!

You might call your dealer and get on their orphan list. In the 'irony' deparment, I was on the orphan list and they called me with a red cabrio orphan the day I got my 'configure your car' e-mail. I don't know if I'd have taken it though. Red cabrio but with silver tridion and cloth interior. Mine is red and black with leather and every bell and whistle they offer. I will have it!

Get exactly the car you want. Try the orphan list too. You might get lucky.

I'm aiming for getting one with all the options installed but I can settle for less (depending on what less)

In a cabrio:

1) Comfort package US$850 (black leather heated seats, power steering, fog lamps). Depending on where you live, the heated seats do take the edge off when cold (subjective) - but this option is packaged with the leather, so no choice in the matter. The power steering is another subjective area that many may think is necessary - I don't, but the wife would differ with me. I think the fog lamps are useful and have come in handy in dark, poorly lit situations.

2) Fog lamps US$110. IMHO - a must have.

3) Heated seats US$220. Subjective, I think the need is based upon your personal situation. To me, I would spend the $$.

4) Additional instruments (clock & rev counter) US$120. Another subjective option. Looks good, but does not add any real value to the vehicle other than the unique - cool look.

5) Daytime running lamps US$50. A must have.

6) Anti-theft alarm system US$160. Not the most sophisticated system, but for the $ I think a worthwhile investment.

7) Electric power steering US$450. See #1 above.

We got the full-height cargo divider and I don't consider it a luxury.

In case of accident, any loose items in the back that make it to the front could cause injury to occupants.

Besides, it looks cool to me!

I wouldn't give up the ejector seat or the auto destruct sequence

The orphan I have now has no added features besides the red metallic paint.
On order I have the fog lights - they look cool and are useful at times in FL.
Also the instrument pods - I really miss having a tach.
And the alarm system - just because of security.
Didn't opt for the black leather pkg - too hot in FL. Would have gotten another color leather had it been available, however.
Power steering - not required unless you're a 90 y/o granny.
Radio 10 - nope - the stock is fine with me; I'm about tone-deaf any way!
Auto light and wipers? No thanks - I can manage that on my own.
If you think you want something - order it. It's pretty expensive if you want to add it later~!
Just my $.02 . . .
