i got an orphan pre-packaged with the "comfort" option instead of what i had ordered/configured and am very happy with my choice.

the leather seats clean beautifully, the lower back heat is sublime when the back spasms attack, love the power steering and the auto- lights are smart!
will get a better audio system later for now the pod is attached to the smart at all times...
this is my first NEW car EVER so i was happy to have found an orphan that was close to my budget and available to take home immediately...
have fun choosing!

I previously had an orphan, sold it and now have the car I reserved. Options are in order of importance to me:

Solid roof - The panorama roof got too hot for me in the summer and overloaded the a/c, even with the "shade" closed. Or get the Cabrio. One of my other cars is a convertible.

If you're getting a pure don't even think of getting it without a/c.

Heated seats - Really nice when my back is aching. Were missing in the orphan I bought.

Paddle shifters weren't terribly useful until 2009 when now the transmission goes into manual mode when you touch one.

Tach and Clock - I really appreciate the tach and it helps me decide when/if to force a downshift etc. The analog clock is much easier to read and you don't have to take your eyes so far away from the road.

Red/Black/Red (now) vs White/Silver/Beige (orphan) - The new red is really nice. On principle, I'd refuse to pay extra for silver tridion when it costs smart nothing extra. I prefer black anyway. I liked the beige interior at first and then began to dislike it. The red brightens up the interior.

If I had known daylight running lights were available when I configured I would have taken them.

Luggage divider purchased from dealer keeps stuff from falling down in back of seats.

Upgraded radio & speakers now versus standard radio 9 in orphan. Mild improvement in sound quality. I'd do it again unless I was pinching pennies.

Removable carpets purchased from dealer are easy to remove and clean. Easily replaced when they get too ratty.

Fog lights - The Smart fog lights are really great. But how often are they really needed? If you're pinching pennies forgo them.

No power steering on either car. Never missed it.

No Alarm system on either car. With the alarm system it chirps when you lock or unlock the car, which I detest. Who pays attention to car alarms when they sound?

Non-dealer options:

Red caps for wheel lug bolts. Cheap bling!

Spare tire + jack + lug wrench.

TomTom One XL portable GPS - cheaper than built-in and I can use it in other cars.

Oil slick option and self-destruct sequence at unused buttons on dash.

THREAD TEMPORARILY JACKED!!!

-Can't live without oil slick! It helps out when you go 10 over and there's a certain someone behind you.
-I'd also like invisibility and invincibility for when the traffic gets too heavy...
-Then a submersible boat conversion, hover conversion, and space shuttle with hyper drive conversion...
-And I can't forget the flux capacitator in the back for going back to the future!!

How much would this cost on a smart??
