As the topic title might suggest, I'm looking for any info on peoples experiences of South Korea. I love the Far East and its diverse cultures. Will go to Seoul for couple of weeks in December. Anyone can recommend any places to visit, food to try, shopping, etc.
I have a friend of mine who is a Native of there, he's there now golfing on the Asian Tour. I'll try to contact him and see if he has any cool spots you can check out.
Graduated from Seoul American High School in 1980, Army Brat. So long ago I'm sure things have changed. Did have some good times tho! Got tons of shoes and clothes in Etawon (sp?) at great prices.
been to Seoul for a few days a couple of years back - not the most exiting place compared to Hong Kong or Tokyo. Lots of cement box apartments and offices, everyone pretty busy. Imperial palace is interesting - see here
. You would probably do better with the rest of the city if you have a local person as a guide. Seoul is expensive too, but the food is pretty good if you like spicy (I do).
I think you should check out the rest of the country as two weeks is way too much time in Seoul itself

Itaewon.
I spent a summer in Seoul, Pusan, and Taegu in 1995 with a Broadway show that toured over there. We were south of the river in Kangnam-Ku in Seoul for six weeks and had a ball. You can't miss the street markets, especially the Namdaemun Market, which is primarily household goods and clothing. The Chungachun Market is the "hardware store" market, in the northeast part of town. There's all sorts of great food and sights to see, too. Don;t be shy about the street food vendors; "eating on the street" is not to be missed, especially the fried chicken. Delicious!!

That's not fried chicken......it's puppies and kittens. JUST KIDDING! While you're there Cube, just look at all the stray animals there.
Ohhh boy yes. The street food. As Peter would say....."It's friggin' awesome!".
