Neon,
Ask your mom if that is one of those "cool" cars she is saying you should get?

Why do I think the clutch wouldn't last long on that car?

She doesn't like Minis much...just about equal to the smart...

It's a Hemi, it'll rip that poor Mini clutch to pieces!

Hemi gets misued (or misunderstood as the case may be) way too much.

Do I recall correctly that the engine in our smart is actually a hemi?

Neon, it's not got a mini clutch or trans in it, it's be converted to RWD, so it's got some form of a (prsumably) RWD V8 transmission in it.

dovienya, nearly all modern 4 cylinder engines are "hemis". It just means that the detonation chamber is hemispherically shaped.

This is one awesome ride, I'd love to see some "under the skin" pictures of it.

Yup, which is why it bugs me that it tends to get tossed around so much as a term for a high horsepower engine. It's just a design aspect (albeit a more efficient one), not a signifier of a large amount of power.

I only had called it a Hemi because that is what Chrysler named the SRT8 engine. I knew that most smaller engines are technically a Hemi.

And the Mini owner put just that in there, the SRT8...which means a motherload of power in such a small vehicle.

Otherwise unless if the engine has a name I just call it an engine. (like Mitsu's Mivec engines).

Now, how's about the SRT8 in a smart?
