Book Recommendations

Any book recommendations?

Ron Suskind has authored a new book titled 'The Way of the World'.

He has been a good friend and offers a lot of insight. He spoke at our last Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth) dinner. He chose to speak to us rather than accompany Benazir Bhutto's motorcade when she returned to Pakistan.

"Human Smoke" by Nicholson Baker. Non-fiction book tracing the events leading up to WWII (particularly the U.S.A.'s involvement). A very interesting/disturbing presentation of needless death and suffering particularly of non-combatants on all sides.

The Hiram Key and Second Messiah by Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas.

The Hiram Key is about Freemasonry and the - supposed - links to the Secret Scrolls of Jesus.

The Second Messiah is about Freemasonry and the belief that the Shroud of Turin is an image of the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar Jacques deMolay rather than Jesus Christ.

If you think I'm opinionated, you haven't lived yet; these guys really don't seem to like Christians, the Catholic Church or (in the Second Messiah) English Freemasonry.

These books are - supposedly - nonfiction, and include many footnotes. I find it amusing that they footnote themselves as references. Got to admire guys that say "This is obviously true, because we said it in another book" and think that nobody will notice something like that.

The books are kind of dry reading (they're English, and certainly not C.S. Lewis English!), but they're funny in a "I can't believe they think someone would seriously believe that" kind of way ... if you read them whilst in the proper frame of mind.

Your pal,
Meat.

Books

"Twilight In The Desert" by Matthew Simmons - The reality of the oil situation in Saudi Arabia.

"The Long Emergency" by James Kunstler - The reality of what will happen after the Saudi oil runs out.

"Gusher Of Lies" by Robert Bryce - The reality of why the US will never be "Energy Independent" no matter how many holes we drill in the ground. This one is flawed in many ways, for example I believe he underestimates the danger of trading with enemies like Iran and Venezuela, the but adequate food for thought.
