Braunschweiger and what dressing to use??

I bought a tube of Braunschweiger for some odd reason. Its been maybe 20 years since i ate any. What "mayo" type dressing do i use with it? I remember it being a type of relish with orange appearance.

My folks ate it with crackers, don`t know about any dressing. Haven`t heard about that stuff in years!

20 year old liverwurst - what's not to love?

Open Faced Braunschweiger Melts

My Mom used to make these for us during tomato season in the summertime (way back in the 70's). Even though the combination of ingredients sounds weird, the flavors really blend well into an awesome taste sensation that I am totally addicted to, even after all these years. I LOVE this stuff! (Unbelievably quick and easy, too.)

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread (I like white, but my mother preferred sourdough)
  • 2 slices braunschweiger liver sausage, sliced from the tube in 1/2-inch slices (I prefer Oscar Mayer)
  • 2 slices tomatoes
  • 2 slices Velveeta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Hellmann's mayonnaise
Directions

  1. Toast bread slices, and put them on an ungreased baking sheet.
  2. Spread 1 Tbsp mayonnaise on each toasted piece of bread.
  3. Place 1 Braunschweiger slice over the mayonnaise.
  4. Place 1 slice of tomato on top of Braunschweiger slices.
  5. Place 1 slice of cheese on top of tomato.
  6. Put baking sheet under a pre-heated broiler and broil until cheese gets bubbly (3-5 minutes).

1. With nothing on your favorite cracker

2. On soft squishy white bread with Miracle Whip

Go to Usingers in Milwaukee for the gold!

You are talking about "Sandwich Spread" if it is orangish with relish.

But... my favorite-
split Onion Bagel toasted
take a couple of slices of the liverwurst or Braunschweiger and schmear like cream cheese on bottom half
top with a slice of Velveeta and a dollup of Miracle Whip [note to Kraft Foods: please do not sue me for unauthorized use of trademarked brand names]
optional [for you, maybe] a thick slice of red onion before the Velveeta

Mum-mum - its time for a snack before bed... and this one is guaranteed to give you really vivid full color dreams...

For me, with bacon and fried onions on caraway rye - one slice thinnly coated with real mayonnaise, the other thinnly coated with German stone-ground mustard.

It was a childhood staple but now we buy it for dog treats. But, occasionally when my wife's not looking I'll ask to share (and so far they've never said "No..." ) Try topping with red onion slices on buttered bread. Rye is best, but any substantial one will do (NOT wonder bread!!!!) Try a few different mustards on the side so you can play with the type and amounts to see if you like it better with or without it.

I prefer Miracle Whip instead of regular Mayo. I usually add a slice of cheese too. Sometimes I'm in a different mood and I'll go with Ketchup instead of the MW.

My dad got me hooked on that stuff when I was a kid. I eat it about 3-4 times a year, mostly in the summer.

Oh, btw, I eat it like a MAN. Cut off huge slices of it to fill up my sandwich. None of this 'sissy' smearing it around crap.

Big Panda OUT!

I can't really handle any of this any more. Ever since I discover I'm a supertaster.
