My mom used to feed me what she referred to as simply "Peanut Butter and Syrup". Here's how is it made and how it is 'tasted':
1 slice of white bread, cover with cold, real butter and then cover that with a healthy (?) spread of peanut butter. While doing this, to make homemade syrup, take a scoop of sugar, put in a pan and add enough water to not quite cover the sugar and bring to a boil.
Just as the syrup (sugar water) boils, pour it over the slice of bread with the peanut butter.
The taste of this is that you have the 'cold' of the butter, the 'saltiness' of the peanut butter and the 'sweetness' of the syrup. add to this an ice cold glass of milk and well, I was in HEAVEN! I ate this on many cold Michigan mornings. My mom would make her own 'syrup' as I think she just didn't have the money to buy the 'real stuff'.
But talk about hardening of the arteries? You would think that would be terrible, but I've eaten it since a kid and while I do very the ingredients (sometimes I warm up real syrup in the microwave), I'm blessed with a normal cholesterol level and surprisingly enough, I'm NOT a DIABETIC!
Big Panda OUT!
