So a couple of years ago we configured our MINI to our very exact specifications (as encouraged by BMW's Mini brand). Dozens of choices. We fully realized many of these were factory-installed and we would have to wait 3 to 6 months. OK.
At the end of the process... the Mini webpage asked that we print it and take it to a dealer. OK.
The two dealers in our area had never heard of anyone custom ordering a Mini. They apparently had no idea how to do it. I don't think they knew that there aren't supposed to be two identical Minis, because of all the choices the manufacturer offers.
Sure enough, they were willing to sell us whatever they had on the lot.
I despise dealers. Give me the after-sales workshop "service" and be done with it.
