I saw it Friday and really enjoyed it.

I'm surprised how well done the special effects were, given that the movie was really pretty 'low budget'. I was never really that interested in a Halo movie, so I am glad that that movie's failure turned into this gem.

The movie was pretty much a political commentary, but very well done. I'm trying to remember what other sci-fi movies I've seen this year... I wouldnt consider District 9 to be an all time great or anything, but I might actually peg it as the best I've seen this year. This year has been a little scant. Transformers 2 was *awful*.

Anyways, I'm no critic or anything. Just a guy that spends too much money going to the theaters. If you're on the fence about it, I personally dont regret spending $11 on the ticket for even a moment.

I thought this movie might be cool, but I rarely ever go to the movies, so I'm sure I'll see this one in 2-3 years on DVD. I'm SOOO far behind on movies it's not even funny. Oh well.

What I WILL go see in the movie theatre (only the second film I'll see this year in the theatre) will be 9. It looks GREAT:

9 | Film Overview | Focus Features Movies |

9 and District 9 both sound like worthy movies! Sadly, I'm in sandalscout's camp with regard to theatres vs home viewing.

They've both got very impressive web sites!

Would you say District 9 is better than Star Trek? That would be hard to imagine.

I do not think it is anything close to being better than Star Trek.

A Trekkie.

Whoops! See, thats why everyone should always take what I say with a grain of salt.

Star Trek totally slipped my mind.

I will admit to having had mixed feelings about star trek. Dont get me wrong, it was a great movie, but I sort of feel that the way they made themselves a new opening for future movies and such was a bit cheesy. I enjoyed the movie, and would probably say it was indeed a better movie than district 9, but it was lacking a little in heart.

I think I might actually be looking forward to a possible sequel to district 9 more than I am looking forward to the inevitable sequel to the new star trek franchise.

I think of Star Trek as being in a different category of SciFy. There are similar movies or tv series where they had aliens coming to earth and either co-existing with humans or trying to take over; or a little of both.

Trekkie.
