Do you ride your bike to work?

O I don't know about you guys but I know that even though I drive a smart, I still am cutting back my fuel consumption with alternative transportation such as walking or biking to work. How about everyone else, have you cut back in your gas consumption?

I have a cube in my company, 25 miles from my house but . . . nowadays I telecommute any chance i get

usually amounts to 3 days/week. Thats a savings of 150 mi/week ($70/mo), and many hours of productivity!

I walk, biking is too dangerous and you still have problems with parking:

As a matter of fact, I do! I stopped being a consultant about 10 yrs ago and one of my factors was to find a job that I could ride a bike to. And I did. I ride a recumbent Sun EZ Rider II. The name says it all. The Smart mpg is important but not as a commuting issue. Probably the most important Smart purchase factors for me was ease/comfort of getting in/out, safety, and easy urban driving. I ride a bike because its fun and there is no quicker way to erase work from my head than getting on a bike. All that crap is flushed out within the first 20 yards of being on my bike.

Oh yeah. I'm fortunate in that I have a safe & secure place to park my bike. And a safe route to ride, mostly thru side streets & residential neighborhoods. My #1 rule is never argue with a car.

Today I walked to work, yesterday I biked. Its great combining exercise with my commute and saving $.

My smart is mostly for meetings that are out of town or shopping for groceries or home/garden stuff. In fact, my office is sad they don't get to see her more often.

I wish I could ride to work more but I fiend myself needing to run errands more often which require the car for hauling, etc.

Same here, although I admit that I don't walk to work as often as I could/should and drive instead. But I've "lost" a few bike seats and once even some pedals, parking my bike near my office. Plus, I'm terrified of biking in the city - too many hypermilers running stop signs <g>.

I am in a car pool with two others, and the weeks I don't drive I ride my bike to the park-n-ride.

Now the very sharp of you say "Wait, that's three in a smart!?"

Well, not quite. I'm still waiting on the smart...still drive the Sequoia for now. Bob retires in December...smart comes in December...problem solved!

I've been a bike commuter to one degree or another all of my adult life. So that's 33 years of commuting the mean streets of SoCA! I've never had an accident. I'm sorry pjneedster lives where they feel it's too dangerous to bike.

<= Please see my SCOA gallery. Proof positive, my bike fits into a smart!
