Driving a smart is like driving...?

a souped-up fancy-fied Yugo?

an old 1973 Subaru or Mazda rotary-engined sedan?

a Mini Cooper without all that extra horespower?

an old Karman Ghia with it's "auto/manual" clutchless gearbox?

a VW roundback wagon, but smaller?

a really nice, comfortable small car made of left-over Mercedes parts?

So, how do you describe your smart driving experience to all those inquiring souls out there?

It's like. . . .

driving a golf cart with a lawnmower engine -- and the most fun you'll have on the road.

A well-designed walnut with a VW Bug engine and a Calvin n' Hobbes attitude.

For those unfamiliar:

well designed = Mercedes' engineering on a budget
walnut = tridion cell
VW Bug = puttputtputtputt
Calvin n Hobbes = the sit-n-pout the new cars get at a light when they're teased with the chance to go forward and told they have to wait.

I am not sure what car you drove or what you expected, but judging from the choices above it must have been something different that what I test drove! My test drive of the Smart Passion was a pleasant experience. I found the car to be responsive, agile, comfortable and fun, not to mention fuel efficient!! Now it did not have the acceleration of say a Corvette, the ride of a Lincoln Town Car or the comfort of a BMW 750LI, nor did it have the price tag of one of those autos either. For what the car is intended to do the little guy does a great job!! So I would not compare the drivability of the SMART to any of the examples you have listed. It was more like the Honda CVCC. One of my first non American automobiles. Just loved my 1979 model.

hey...I rode in one of those Honda's back in the old days...they were a fun ride!

by the way: I am a smart owner...and I love how it rides and performs...i was just curious as to what people compare it to...when i try to describe it or compare it, i seem at a loss for words! usually, i just say "it's like driving a little Mercedes, and it has a little price tag, too!

I think it feels like a VW. I had a golf way back when and it has the same sense to me... not as peppy but also more reliable.
