Okay, I just don't understand the logic used by the powers-that-be on this site. Granted I'm still new here, but I've been online since 1981 using BBS boards.

Why are threads locked ? Why are posts deleted ? Because the original intent of the post is lost ? So what ? Who cares ? ALL posts degrade as people add to it. Nature of the animal.

We're not writing a tech manual here. It's just a bunch of car owners sitting around the imaginary bar, drinking the imaginary beer, shooting the breeze, exchanging tips and tricks. Ain't nothing lofty and noble going on here.

If a post goes to 30 pages, so what ? Saving bandwith ? I belong to a bunch of other forums (free) that have posts hundreds of pages long. This site would like "donations" from members and sponsors. Quite understandable, as there is no free lunch.

But before I plunk down cash (still on the fence after witnessing all the editing/censorship), I want to be sure everyone's voice is heard, every word typed it printed. Freedom of speech. This is still America, dammit !!

So far, I ain't seeing that.

1. It's not a public board... It's a private venture.

2. You have to play by the rules. You don't have to agree but you have to abide. They are stated very clearly.

3. If you have a problem with rule 2 see rule 1

It's not a democracy here. The moderators seem to be pretty much free to do as they choose and it's been that way since the beginning. All are welcome but there's an expectation that comes along with posting here. Just make sure your check doesn't bounce and the mods won't sick JetFuel on you. Oh... and if you want to score extra points then send a bar of soap to Jwight... he doesn't like to shower.

Edit... In before the thread lock!!!

LOL. Freedom of speech and free enterprise don't live in the same town. Look up "forum", by definition. "A place for the open exchange of ideas and information." Or.... "A place in Roman times where justice is dispensed." Or.... "A court or tribunal." SCOA fulfills all three at once.......... all the while using censorship and editing...... bet this gets canned also.

It's a compromise

Mud Pie: I agree with just about everything you say. And, I too, have been online and a computer geek for decades (pre-interwebs). I'm a solid supporter of free speech. But, we're all (me too) capable of posts with the sole intention of raising fur. There are other forums where this is allowed. SCOA isn't one of them. Sometimes that is frustrating, especially when there are others who push the envelope of what is acceptable and try to get under your skin. But, that's just the way it is here.
