One could argue that if you are unhappy with the way the people who presently run the parade are portraying your community, you should take an active involvement in it to fight for a representation of which you would be proud.
excellent point too and applies to anything. if you're unhappy with the way something is portrayed or done, then make your voice heard to those in charge.
but like most situations (especially like here, in my workplace), it probably won't make much of a difference but it may make YOU feel better about it, now that you got it off your chest and VENTED! ;)
unfortunately that feeling is short lived and when reality sets back in, you're all bummed out once again........

Nah, that's okay! Let those who have collectively agreed that a parade is a good thing have their way. I get my pride at home. Anyway, those events are funded mostly by beer organizations and the like who like to corral the young impressionable masses so they can sell 'em alcohol and stuff.
(Edit addition) I'm not 'unhappy' with the parade... my choice of words was 'dislike.' But my interest goes no further than to voice my opinion about it, as a point for discussion. My profession is marketing, and I recognize that the parade and related pride events (in most major cities) are nothing more than a money-making marketing ploy to promote causes and condoms under the guise of pride. Let the buyer beware!

I appreciate and respect your viewpoint and recognize the role marketing plays in these events.
There are, of course, many guys of either orientation who have very fond if somewhat vague memories involving alcohol and condoms.
I go by a number of labels here, for this forum my primary label is: Smart car owner/fan (smartie). On this forum, I also subscribe to the labels: SCOA Member, 1174, Veteran, Florida and Gay.
Labels = identity. We smarties all identify ourselves one way or another, the common thread being a smartie.

that's what I'M afraid of. right now, Bambi isn't fully 'on board' with this smart car thing, but i think once i get it, SHE'LL be the one taking it here and there and i'll still be driving my Jeep.
like "kmeinhold"....my 'ultimate plan' is to have TWO smarts, his and hers, but still keep the Jeep for all the big, grown up stuff!

Same here. My smart is the experiment. We want to see how it performs and holds up for a year or two. Then we plan to look at replacing my partners car, which is currently a Honda Civic, but it's going to take a lot of convincing as he has only owned Hondas.
So basically I am the guinea pig. It would be nice as we live in luxury condos and we could share our parking space. LOL I generally park my land yacht (Towncar) in a visitor space.
I am sure Ray will want to use my smart when it arrives, but the problem is I can't drive his civic as it sits too low and hurts my back and hips. (thanks to an accident I had many years ago.) So it will be interesting...
I am strongly thinking about doing the local orphan list and seeing what comes up, we get two tries before they remove your name. If I can get a fully loaded passion I would probably be satisfied.
I think that it's wonderful that any group can get together and share their love for Smart Cars! Who cares if they are gay or have one leg! The cool thing is that through these forums everyone can get together in the way they choose to share their involvement and enjoyment for their Smart Cars and new driving lifestyle! PEOPLE! Think Green and Don't Be Mean!
