Same here. My smart is the experiment. We want to see how it performs and holds up for a year or two. Then we plan to look at replacing my partners car, which is currently a Honda Civic, but it's going to take a lot of convincing as he has only owned Hondas.
I am strongly thinking about doing the local orphan list and seeing what comes up, we get two tries before they remove your name. If I can get a fully loaded passion I would probably be satisfied.
you know Brad, since there's such a long wait to get an ordered smart, when you purchase either YOUR ordered one or get an orphan, you should immediately 'reserve' another one. by the time THAT one is ready for delivery your partner may be ready to part with his Civic. i can relate to him and his Honda 'fetish'........i've had many Hondas and they are GREAT cars. if it weren't for the smart, i would be trying to convince my wife to get a Honda Fit, but she thinks it looks too much like a "station wagon". she even refers to my Jeep Compass as a "station wagon" and i have to correct her: "It's NOT a 'station wagon', it's a JEEP!!!"

This is true. Hummmm, I might have to think about that idea, if he decides against it or if the smarts all die a horrible death for some really odd reason I can always get the reservation money back... Hummmm.
Thanks for the idea.
Now, we are off the the Company Picnic. Always a barrel of monkeys when two gay guys show up. LOL Since I am in management, we just get a few looks. nothing too bad. Our company added sexual orientation to the non-discrimination clause. It has been quiet ever since... People are warming up to the fact that we really are just human beings!
My partner and I just joined a car group in the tampa bay area called flamingo auto group ,its a bunch of men who are car crazy men ,most own collectable cars,I went to a BBQ on mothers day ,the smart got more attention then any other car there, and there were some beautiful cars

Oh wow, that sounds like it would have been fun! Did ya get any photos?! We need events like that here in VA. I know they have them once in a blue moon, but I always find out too late. Taking the smart would be a great idea... LOL!!!
Wow, I didn't think I would ever get to the last post but I'm glad I persevered. I love that psychedelic paint job. Reminds me of a picture I saw of Janis Joplin's Porsche 356. Interesting posts, interesting people and of course, interesting cars. Just stopped by the Off Topic Cafe to say hi to everyone. I'm a future owner in waiting like many of you. A little concerned about all the transmission shifter problems some are experiencing. In the meantime...life is good, and I would like to wish fair winds to all.
Hey there smart men and women. I've been away for a while, and just thought I'd say hello. It was fun reading through everyone's viewpoints. Just my two cents really quick... one creates their own reality. If you see people as accepting, they'll be accepting. In a way, you kind of force them into being the way you want them. If you give people an opportunity to discriminate, they usually will. If you show you don't expect undesirable behavior, you generally won't see it. It's a slightly different way of looking at things, but I believe it.
The one time I thought someone was looking at me like "what an idiot for driving that car," i started to notice people laughing at me, and a pick up with two younger men in it yelled "what the f&$# are you driving?"...
But when I just love my car and assume everyone is pleasantly interested, I get nothing but pleasant reactions. Even driving through some very small towns on our way to Denver from Minneapolis, not one small town tough guy (stereotyping a bit) had anything but genuine pleasant curiosity. Everywhere we went people politely asked to look inside, thanked us for taking time to indulge their curiosity, etc.
So anyway... if my mind-set expects negative comments or gestures from strangers, that's exactly what I'll get. But if I just expect a friendly nature out of those around me, that's what I get. Hopefully if more people simply expect a friendly nature, everyone will realize there's not as much of a need to flex the "attitude" muscle to get their way... they'll find that all they have to do is ask nicely, and in the end won't need to get their way as often, because they'll be more inclined to compromise and make everyone happy because that makes themselves happier, too!
Anywho... Happy driving/living/being/coexisting!
PS... If anyone's interested and will be in the area, the Minnesmarta's group is having a cruise around Lake Minnetonka this Sunday June 8th. If any of you can make it, let me know! The more the merrier!
adding graphics to my family smart car tomorrow with it all silver wanted to make it stand out a bit ,I'll have pictures ,but have never been able to added them ,every time I try ,I get error messages
