Yep,my partner of 21+ years and I can't get "married" but one of my sisters can go through 7 and is working on ending #8.

Its crazy! It took a long time for it to get to this stage in the UK. In Scotland, it was illegal for years after England legalised homesexuality, never mind civil partnerships!
Fortunatley, apart from my family, I've had no problems, either in work, or in life in general, just for being gay. I don't hide it, neither do I throw it in people's faces either.
On a lighter venue, it would be nice if the Gay Smart Community would join the "Outsmart the Dragon" meetup in North Carolina. People tend to get along together when they put a face and personality along with a written post. I would hope that the "straight community" would welcome more participants. It would be nice if all of the minority and majority groups would drop their guards and just enjoy the event for what it is, just plain fun.
Maybe I'm missing something, but that's not really an issue. We're all smart owners and enthusiasts first. The events I've attended have never been about who is what, only about getting together and enjoying the cars.
However, your overall point is absolutely spot on - it's much harder to dislike someone after you get to know them (with the exception of a couple of members of my wife's family. )
Maybe it's because I work in the professional theatre, where there are so many gay people (most of whom are pretty cool people to work and hang out with), or maybe it's because my daughter (R.I.P. - died of leukemia a few years back) was gay, and supposed to marry her girlfriend (who is still a close friend of the family) this summer, but I just don't get it...
What possible difference does it make to anyone on the planet who or what anyone else sleeps with? The only way anyone else's choice of sexual partner(s) could possibly affect me that I can think of is if that person's choice was *me*, and I'm fairly certain that just ain't gonna happen - A.) I'm ugly, and B.) Wifey's got a key to the gun cabinet, and she shoots better than I do (which is sayin' something, I'm here to tell ya).
Why hate someone based on their sexual preference, when if you take the time to really get to know them, there are usually so many more legitimate reasons to loathe and despise them. (Okay, I kid.. I kid...)
Honestly, it's just ridiculous. Color me "Straight, But Far From Narrow."

You would have really been amazed by some of the comments posted when this thread first started - and not in a good way. The thread had to be taken down and "sanitized" before it could be returned to the forums.
No; I read 'em. I was too disgusted to respond, and was right on the verge of sending out a few private flames, but then I decided it wasn't worth the aggravation... Something about not wrestling with a pig - you both get filthy, but the pig likes it.
Every so often I sit and wonder which century this really is.

Right on Rigger! You said it well. It seems that a lot of the gay people I know are better educated and just smarter in general than the straights....common sense included.
Signed: Bum-bling-B - who's probably been hit on by more guys in his life than girls. I have plenty of close gay friends but never really had the urge to go play on that field.
