I want a smart cuz it's cool looking, not for any green reason, all these damn tree huggers won't let us drill in a frozen waste-land in Alaska or in the Gulf, We can't have new Nuclear power plants etc. I'm so sick of all this man made Global Warming crap, when it rains they say it's global warming, when it Snows its global warming...blah blah blah...shut up already!
I...hope this thread is a joke? Wanting to save the planet is all well and good, but you can't do that by forcefully changing the habits of others. No one has any right to do that. If someone shows interest in your smart, telling them its virtues and creating a genuine interest will be far more effective in the long run than complaining about 'poop mobiles'. And I think that the laws of physics will disagree about you having nothing to worry about if a ford excursion drives you into a ditch. No matter what you're driving, getting rammed into a ditch will not be fun.
As you can see by my avatar, I too have an interest in protecting this planet but I do so as a personal goal. Ultimately that's what it has to be: People genuinely wanting to help this earth, themselves, and their neighbors on a personal level. If you just spout about 'pitiful people' driving SUVs and trucks you're doing nothing but creating anger and driving a wedge between people. If someone is not interested in planting trees or conserving water, beating them over the head will not change their views. But, if you try to live by your green morals and get a few people interested along the way...then good for you! Forgive me for sounding preachy, but I don't really think you're going about this in an effective way.
And personally, I think I get cut off more by sports cars than anything else. Heck, I've had a few prius's nearly ram into me! ;)
aaaah. The arrogance of man. To believe that we - we; an insignificant speck on the backside of a machine more intelligent and complex than 'we' will ever comprehend - can 'save the planet.'
The planet does just fine without interference from environmentalist nut jobs. There's nothing we can do to the planet that it can't recover from.
Know why species die out? Because they're supposed to. They didn't adapt, move to where the food is, or figure out that being where they were was a bad place to be. Charles Darwin was right.
Maybe greenies want to stop evolution, but that's a stagnant pond that I'd just as soon not wade in. Species - including man - have to evolve. We can't do otherwise. The complete lack of humility towards nature displayed by the wackos who claim to know better than the planet I find appalling.
I will never go green. I will burn real wood in my fireplace. I will drive my hate tank like I own the road (I might as well, I've been paying for it for years). I will throw my trash - all of it - into the dumpster without separating out so-called recyclables. I will use REAL lightbulbs, not those dim, sex toy-shaped, poison containing, overpriced idiot lights. I will drive my off-road vehicle off-road. I will cut off and do burnouts on the hood of every environment-destroying and slow-moving Prius I find on my freeway impeding my progress. I will cook with fire. I will cook meat, and use vegetables as garnish. I will wipe my butt with all the toilet paper necessary, defoliate forests to print emails that include "don't print this email" or "consider the environment" reminders in them, rinse my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher, let the water run while I brush my teeth, flush as many times as necessary (I miss the faa-whoosh! sound from the good ol American Standard I grew up with), wash down my driveway, smoke my cigars, cling to my religion and hold fast to my rifle.
Why? Because THAT has been proven to work. Going green has only led to a cash hemorrhage that the U.S. taxpayer has had to pay because idiot liberals have no foresight and take no responsibility for their socialistic/facist tendancies. Going green has proven - time and time again - to do nothing but destroy the environment, inconvenience the people, and cost money that could be spend on programs that would actually help our fellow man. God did say, after all, that man was to rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the livestock, all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. (I knew that one day that DD would come in handy!).
All I have to say is this thread really makes me sad. It proves just how far we have come yet how very far we have to go...
Our society has become so innocent that we so easily place blame on anyone but ourselves. The famous human quote should be "It wasn't my fault"...
Until we own up to our own responsibilities in the world and face facts our future generations have a rough lesson to learn, if they even survive it.
All I can say to all the nay sayers in the thread is I hope for all our sakes, that you are right...
Thanks...
I'm not saying those that are against "green" are bad, I just hope those of us green folks can compensate for those that aren't. It's an uphill challenge. We can't and shouldn't make people BE GREEN, but I can control my actions and choices in this world. The only way we can change things is if we choose to be personally responsible. We have to be the change we wish to see in the world.
The large companies are starting to make the right decisions.
All we can do is be accountable, then use the law to hold others accountable who refuse to be responsible.
People are people. What's they saying, you can lead a horse to water, but...
The smart car is fun and it is a wise move no matter what your take is on the environment. Personally I think they should push gas to $10 or more a gallon to encourage people to change. The same is going to happen with water when we pollute that beyond use... It's already happening with both in other countries...
I respect everyone's point of view. People are a product of their social structures. Aggression proves just how far we have to go, if there wasn't truth in it people wouldn't be so quick to attack it. We attack what we fear, and we fear what we don't understand, and we don't understand what we lack knowledge regarding.
Doing public relations and research for two of the largest companies on the planet have left me aware of these sad yet true facts.

Wow. Well, while we are a nation of law, we are a nation founded on freedom, individual rights, and a small, non-intrusive government. That means that the government cannot and should not tell us what lightbulbs to use, demand that free enterprise - like oil companies - cannot make a profit, and that we should all buy into as stupid an idea as global warming is.
Be green all you want to ... but keep your green-ness out of my yard.
A greenies climbs a tree I'm going to cut down, and I'm going to cut the tree down anyway - hope they brought a parachute.
Greenie dictates do not and will not apply to me or my descendants. They cannot save the planet because it doesn't neet saving. It's not a greenie's job to try to force others to a misguided belief system based on disinformation, incomplete data and a computer model that has gaping holes in logic. The polar bears will thank you for leaving them the hell out of your calculations. They're doing just fine without interference from the green team.

...horses are smarter than to drink from poisoned wells.
And why is it your job to force a horse into submission and then take it on a death march? Horses can find water just fine without interference from those that believe they know better than the horse. There's a reason the phrase "horse sense" exists.

How would facism and demanding that corporations kowtow to some idiotic 'plan' to raise gas prices force change?
The BEST way to force change is to eliminate the EPA. Ban the ACLU, Sierra Club and all the other liberal socialists that constantly attempt to circumvent the Constitution of the United States and the will of God, and DRILL FOR OIL. There is absolutely no reason to artificially inflate the price of gas when we have more than enough oil in Alaska, in the midwest, and in the gulf to last us for longer than our children's children's children's children's children's descendants will ever remember us.
Want to go green? Fine with me. Want alternatives to oil? Fine with me. Just don't kill the rest of the world by taking food out of the mouths of children to put it ino a gas tank and raise the price of food just because you hate oil.

I tend not to respect the points of view of those that haven't thought their "plan" all the way through. That's what got us into the ethanol mess. That's what happened when they deregulated electricity. That's what got us into Iraq. That's what has ruined the public schools. That is what has lead to colleges rubber-stamping graduates and sending them out into the world indoctrinated with an untenable liberal belief that the country owes them something and that these uneducated children have no responsibility to anyone.
Wow....... well said. More coffee, Mr Meat???? Perhaps a position advising all the morons running for President what they SHOULD be saying? You'd get my vote.....

All three of them should say - in unison: "We're all democrats, and the next four years is going to suck."
