I "retired" 10 years ago bought a camper, hooked it up to my full size van and took my 84 year old Dad on a 6 wk, 6000 mile trip in a big circle through parts of the south, Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge Parkway, West Virginia to Massachusetts (son was interning N of Boston) to Niagra Falls, Oshkosh, WI for the annual EAA Flyin and show, where Jim met us, and then back home. I will never regret that trip with Dad. We saw lots of beautiful country as well as having a good time together.
Since then I spent 8 years helping and taking care of him (until he passed away) and the last 5 also providing Day Care for a friend of mines 2 grandkids, now 4 and 6.
I still don't see myself getting a "better" job so that Jim can retire. Maybe Jim should be posting since this thread is for Whining .

Be that it may, my wife is 14 years younger than me and has her law and justice degree and crime scene investigation certificate. She is next in line for public defender investigator position (5 current are retiring this year.) That postition is double what she makes now in the public defender's office. I could retire and between my retirement and her covering my medical and an investigator salary, we would make more than we are now.
I can work on the house and hang out with my retired buddies. This is her wish also.

Sounds perfect for the two of you. Hopefully it will happen soon.
I have a teaching degree but chose staying home with my boys until they were about out of high school. Home schooled them and did day care/taught preschool for years! Now I'm back to day care.
Life goes in circles.
So I found out in Nov that I have CHF (heart failure) with a low EF (Ejection faction). Bummer, but life goes on. Change diet, get meds etc. and back to feeling good and on my bike everyday. Go to my heart guy (in case woman) for my last echo (Echocardiogram) in the beginning of March. Find out that the drugs are great but no improvement in my EF. So.... the team hit me with "you need an ICD" (implantable cardioverter defibrilator) (sorry for all the acronyms). I guess I'm old because I'm of the age where I think the Doc(s) know best. All set for the procedure.... even reserved a room for the wife to stay in at a local hotel in Gainsville while I stay overnight in Shands Hospital. 4:30 pm the day before my implant I get a call from the Doctors office.... my insurance (BC/BS of Maine) has denied coverage. Seems that they know more about this than the Docs. I just received a copy of the denial letter. Boy am I ever P&##ed! While reading their reasoning they state my case has been reviewed by a board cert. Pediatric Endocrinology... wtf does that have to do with what is going on.
Sorry for the rant but needed to get off my chest!
