Los Angeles Earthquake

Last night was my first earthquake and I must admit, it's a little scary being woken up in the middle of the night be large shakes.

Los Angeles Area Hit by 4.5-Magnitude Earthquake (Update1)

By Nick Allen

Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- A magnitude-4.5 earthquake struck the Greater Los Angeles area, the U.S. Geological Survey said in an e-mailed statement.

The epicenter of the temblor, which hit today just before 1 a.m. local time, was 45 kilometers (28 miles) northwest of Los Angeles Civic Center and seven kilometers north-northwest of Chatsworth, said the USGS, which measures seismological events.

The quake was felt by people across Los Angeles County, the Associated Press reported. Residents in the Los Angeles area were awakened and some items were knocked off shelves and walls, AP said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage, AP said, citing Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Earthquake

Congratulations...Now you know what Southern California is like ! 4.5 is nothing...I was there during the '97 Northridge earthquake. It was a 6.7. For those of you that do not know Northridge and Chatsworth are cities right next to each other.

Lived in Southern California for 24 years and went thru many earthquakes during that time.

Decided since I am older now and I don't need as much excitement in my life I am now living (hopefully) in earthquake free country. Although I did find out recently that there is a fault not too far away from my current home.

Hope you are safe and sound.

Bump in the night.

Smart.

"You ain't seen nothin yet" When they start to get above 6.5, and the lights go out, and the pool rocks, as water sloshs out both sides. You will pack your bags and get out of Dodge... We did. )

Regards.

I own a bit of land about 45 miles inland from the coast out there. I figure, when the big one hits, I'll have some great beach front property.
