what do you mean "permitted" - were they not going to permit DVRing the games?

The DVR (Comcast/Motorola) allows future recordings about 2 weeks aways [Edited]
Anyway, I shall be closely watching:
-soccer (men, women)
-gymnastics
-beach volleyball (women especially)
-tennis
Seeing in person, an Atlanta games men/women soccer doubleheader in DC with my family was a life highlight! (sharpshooters on the roof)
Also, seeing the Torch Run in my hometown was a thrill
Visiting Olympia, Greece and seeing the very first gymnasium, palestra, stadium (priceless)
Long live the Olympic spirit-Go USA!

Orphan Beggar,
Thank you very much for keeping us informed of the tv schedule coverage. Am I correct to understand that we'll see most of the events on a 12 hours delay basis?
I.e. the Opening Ceremony is to air on NBC at 7:30 PM Friday, which is exactly 12 hours after the fact...
Don't tell me that we won't see it live because NBC is only airing it at peak hours just for profit.
Let the games begin!

2 televisions
My viewing style for most televised sporting events involves two tv's side by side. Tv1 with event and muted, and tv2 playing dvr talk/cspan/news,etc. Sometimes, both tv's showing sports muted in addition to satellite radio (npr, etc).

Team Iraq is there, with a few missing.
Journalists have reported that the largest celebrations they have witnessed in Iraq were after regional soccer team victories.
Time to clear the DVR!(with the exception of the soft-core stuff)
