I have the Dish for Internet. Luckily I have hughesnet. Turns out Wild Blue or whatever has a fair access policy that is based on monthly use not daily. If I download to much stuff in one day they will shut me down to nothing but e-mail speed for the next day. With the other guys if you exceed your monthly limit (and I Bet Neon would do it in a day) you are shut down for the rest of the month.

We also have a Wireless DSL Provider in the area that is line of sight. Nice Big Government tower just 3 miles south of me with nothing but corn between me and them, except for the neighbors old growth trees that I would have to get over. I'm not putting in a 200' tower to get Internet and I'm not sure if my speed would really increase.
No cable or Phone company is going to come into my area.
Nicely written rant, Forest.

How about you just download a copy of the internet to a floppy? Then you can take it with you wherever you go!

Aren't they those 8" discs made of flexible materials capable of holding 180kB of data? I hated when I misplaced a sleeve.

You had punch cards? Back when you had to enter a program with toggle switches each time you power cycled... now those were computers.

Do you remember college kids hired to push shopping carts of tubes down the aisles of the computer, replacing the burnt-out ones?

Ah, the good old days when you dind't need to spend 3 hours watching some idiot trying to get you computer to work by taking over your computer from somewhere else in the world. And in the end, I still don''t have a printer driver that works, and more importantly I don't have a scanner to help me do my banking.

I want my afternoon back that Lexmark stole from me
