Flatout, I can't wait to see it. Original cast members can show up or not; doesn't matter to me.

The previews make it look exciting. I am a Trekkie and I liked all the variations of Star Trek. Star Trek is in the Guiness book of records for having the most spinoffs and movies.

My wife and I aren't die hard Trekkies, but we're into sci-fi and have watched all the modern series on DVD and seen most of ST:TOS.

Honestly, we've got mixed feelings from the trailers. It looks like the action/special effects have been jazzed up, but we can't help feeling like the cast of 'pretty boy/girl' actors probably can't act (teen Anakin anyone?) and that the story will be weak. We we're having strange flash backs to other special effects extravaganzas that fell flat - the Fantastic 4 (ughh) and Jurassic Park 3 (we we're rooting for the Raptors in the end - just eat'em already and put them out of our misery).

After the last couple ST movies, I hope we're wrong.

Just recently read that he makes an appearance as a time travelling (old) Spock. He may be the one that sends the young crew on their "adventure".

Remakes not always so good

The remakes are not always so good. The Avengers movie was horrible. The guy playing John Steed showed no emotion whatsoever. The Wild Wild West movie was not as good as the original tv series. It is not just movies. There are tv show remakes that don't so well. The newer Monster Family just did not have it for me. I did not care for the newer Adams family; it went from eccentric to sadistic. I am hoping this will be like the Sound of Music they had on tv; it was just as good as the original.

ZULU, who the hell's ZULU

Don't shoot till you see the white's of their eyes

If only they had worn dark glasses , they would have won

but seriously, I am looking forward to seeing this one, Scotty is being played by an Englishman this time instead of a Canadian, Simon Pegg, out of "Shawn of the Dead" and "Hot fuzz"
Why are Scotsmen always played by foreigners.
William Wallace (Braveheart)..........Mel Gibson (Aussie)
Rob Roy..........Liam Neeson (Irish)
Connor MacLeod (Highlander).......Christopher Lambert (French)
I rest my case!

I think you mean Ohura. I remember no character named Zulu and only women wear dresses.

I really, really want to love this movie. My main concern is it may be too heavy on action effects. I love special effects, but would be disappointed if the movie reminds me of Star Wars. The trailer I saw caused this concern ... but then, trailers are always heavy on action.

I wish there was an IMAX here, that would be too cool! Although going to a theatre solo is not my cup of tea, I'll probably do it anyway. Then grab up the disc as soon as it's released.
Here's hoping it's worthy of its name!
